That verdict held up across six separate videos spanning three years of daily use. The hyperdymium motor doesn't just post strong suction numbers on paper. In back-to-back carpet tests, it visibly pulled carpet fibers upward in auto and eco modes where the Dreame Z30 and Shark PowerDetect could not match its extraction depth.
Vacuum Nerds gave the V15 their only S-tier rating, driven primarily by the green laser fluffy optic head. On hard floors, the laser illuminates fine dust, pet dander, and hair that you cannot see under normal lighting. Their demonstration footage showed the laser revealing particles invisible to the naked eye on what appeared to be a clean floor.
Build quality is where the V15 pulls away from Chinese competitors. Dyson's parts ecosystem lets you replace the entire cyclone head for $129 directly from their website, effectively resetting the vacuum's lifespan. Vacuum Nerds praised the same repairability angle. After three years of daily use, their unit needed one part swap and kept performing at full suction.
The bin emptying mechanism matters more than most buyers realize. The V15's red lever trapdoor scrapes the interior clean in one motion. Competing designs from Dreame and Shark trap debris in crevices that require filter removal and manual picking. For a tool you use daily, that friction compounds.
What It Won't Do
The trigger. You hold it down the entire time you vacuum. Every competitor in this price range uses a power button you press once. During a 30-minute cleaning session, that continuous grip creates real hand fatigue. The French Glow flagged this repeatedly across multiple reviews, and it remains the V15's most common complaint. At $560-749, a trigger mechanism carried over from older Dyson designs feels like a baffling omission.
No vacuum in this year's research collected more recommendations than the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty, and it placed near the top of every list that included it. TechGearLab named it the best cordless stick for most people. Wirecutter made it the top self-emptying pick, and Tom's Guide called it the best stick vacuum it has tested. In TechRadar's spill tests it earned the highest cleaning score of the group, 4.75 out of 5, while Vacuum Wars logged perfect results in its carpet deep-clean and hard-floor pickup tests.
The dock earns its place at this price. Park the stick after a run and the base pulls the bin contents into a 2 L container with its own HEPA filter, so emptying the bin stops being part of every session. PowerDetect sensors read dirt, edges and floor type and adjust suction as you go. Shark rates the battery at 70 minutes, and Wirecutter measured 58 in eco mode.
Shark lists it at $549.99, $300 below the V15 Detect, with a 5-year warranty to Dyson's 2.
What It Won't Do
It is heavy. TechRadar found it the heaviest, bulkiest and least comfortable vacuum in its group test, scoring comfort 2.33 out of 5. Tom's Guide found it top heavy too. The stick weighs 8.11 lb, more than a pound over the V15, and the dock needs floor space near an outlet. Hair is the other weak spot. Wirecutter says it struggles with fur, and TechGearLab found hair wrapping around the rollers. RTINGS, testing the closely related PowerDetect Speed, called its filtration during cleaning underwhelming for the price.
